Bechamel Sauce
Bechamel Recipe
To make a classic Bechamel sauce, also known as white sauce, you will need the following ingredients:
2 tablespoons of butter
2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
2 cups of milk
Salt
Pepper
A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions:
Melt the butter: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until it is bubbly.
Add the flour: Sprinkle the flour over the melted butter and whisk continuously to form a smooth paste, also known as a roux.
Cook the roux: Continue whisking the roux for about 2 minutes to cook off the raw flavor of the flour.
Gradually add the milk: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps from forming.
Simmer the sauce: Cook the sauce over low heat, stirring occasionally until it thickens to your desired consistency, usually around 5-10 minutes.
Season the sauce: Season the Bechamel with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg, if desired.
Serve: Your Bechamel sauce is now ready to be used in dishes like lasagna, macaroni and cheese, or as a base for other creamy sauces.
Enjoy this versatile and creamy Bechamel sauce in your favorite dishes!
